Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service manages over 1,300 camping areas across the state’s national parks. Online booking through the Queensland Parks website is mandatory for all sites. Fees range from $6.50 per person per night for basic sites.
Cape York Peninsula
Australia’s most adventurous caravan destination. The Peninsula Development Road north of Cairns is a genuine 4WD track for the final 800km to the tip. Dry season from May to November only.
Fraser Island K’gari
The world’s largest sand island requires a vehicle permit and campground bookings through Queensland Parks. 4WD essential. Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek and the Maheno Shipwreck are must-see sites.
